The new State Farm is likely to change the way Americans lead

Auto insurance firm, State Farm, in collaboration with a telematics company now offers its customers some of the vehicles communications systems, as well as the opportunity to take advantage of discounts on their auto insurance rates. 

This is a joint effort is called in the drive and uses a technology that has been developed by the Farm Atlanta-based Hughes Telematics Inc.. State will begin offering this optional service to customers in Illinois, at some time in September and is likely to be offered in other states next year too. 

The characteristics of this technology is very similar to what was provided by OnStar, a subscription-based service, which GM started building their vehicles about 15 years ago. 

State Farm already has a partnership with OnStar in 5 states and includes besides Illinois. It offers a performance-based driver discounts and discounts based on the average mileage of these programs are called Drive Safe & Save. From now on, motorists must have the OnStar equipment and subscriptions to participate, except in states like California, where you can choose to do a little self-reporting when it comes to mileage. The data are collected by the OnStar system is transmitted to State Farm, after which drivers can take advantage of discounts to maintain a low mileage and good driving habits. 

This new venture between State Farm and Hughes Telematics will open new opportunities for State Farm customers, especially those who do not have OnStar. 

Through this program customers automobile insurance comes with the telematics device is about the size of a cell phone and can be connected to the vehicle's diagnostic port, located under the wheel. This technology helps to provide a range of security features including diagnostic and monitoring capacity. The system will work in most vehicles built after 1995. 

With these options, you can easily follow the driving habits of the members of the family. There are three subscription-based services offered through State Farm. The basic package would be free for a period of 6 months after paying an activation fee of $ 10. The rest of the packages range from $ 5 to $ 14.99 per month including taxes. A number of things that are included in the basic package, such as engine diagnostics, maintenance and service reminders, information about the carbon footprint of the vehicle, stolen vehicle assistance, etc.
